Desvendando um Norte Erudito · Cicle I · 1st Concert

The first concert of the Desvendando um Norte Erudito project took place on 17 December 2021 at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso in Chaves — a space dedicated to the work of the Transmontane painter who gives the museum its name, whose architecture and permanent collection provided a singular context for the project’s premiere.

The programme combined canonical repertoire with an original work commissioned as part of the project. Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 18 No. 4 opened the concert, followed by the world premiere of Galandum, a work for string quartet by Portuguese composer Ana Catarina Barros, written specifically for this project and this space. The concert closed with Mendelssohn’s Quartet Op. 13 No. 2, a youthful work marked by unusual expressive intensity and a deep dialogue with Beethovenian language — establishing an organic connection with the opening work.
